The Coway Airmega 300S and the IQAir Atem are two well-regarded air purifiers, but they serve very different purposes. The Airmega 300S is designed to clean large rooms, while the Atem focuses on providing purified air in a smaller personal space. Below is a closer look at how they compare, based strictly on product descriptions and user reviews.
Coverage
The product description states that the Coway Airmega 300S can clean spaces up to 1,256 square feet in 30 minutes.
The IQAir Atem is described as a personal air purifier, creating a purified zone of approximately 150 square feet around the user.
Filtration
The Coway Airmega 300S product description highlights a HyperCaptive Filtration System, which combines a pre-filter, deodorization filter, and True HEPA filter. It reduces 99.999% of particles as small as 0.01 microns and 99% of volatile organic compounds and odors.
The IQAir Atem uses HyperHEPA filtration, according to the product description, which removes particles down to 0.003 microns and eliminates allergens, smoke, and other pollutants from the air in the personal breathing zone.
Smart Features and Controls
The Coway Airmega 300S product description emphasizes several smart functions. These include the IoCare mobile app, Amazon Alexa compatibility, real-time air quality monitoring, Smart Mode, Eco Mode, and Sleep Mode. It also features filter alerts, scheduling, and timer functions.
The IQAir Atem product description mentions Bluetooth capability but does not describe additional smart features or app-based controls.
Noise Levels
The product description for the Coway Airmega 300S does not provide specific noise information. However, one reviewer reported that the noise ranges from 22 to 52 decibels depending on the setting. The same reviewer described the purifier as generally quiet, with only slight noise during intensive cleaning.
For the IQAir Atem, the product description does not specify noise levels. Reviewers have noted that the purifier is quiet on lower settings and only slightly audible on its highest setting.
Portability and Use Cases

The IQAir Atem product description emphasizes its portability, describing it as suitable for desktops, travel, and small spaces. Several reviewers supported this point, sharing positive experiences using it in hotel rooms and during travel.
Maintenance and Filters
The Coway Airmega 300S product description includes filter alerts and washable pre-filters but does not specify filter costs or replacement frequency. Reviewers reported that the inner filters cost about $43 each, with reminders provided through the app when cleaning or replacement is needed.
The IQAir Atem product description does not include details about maintenance costs or filter lifespan. Reviewers noted that the filters can have a relatively short lifespan, with one stating that filters required replacement after about a month of nightly use at high settings. Another reviewer expressed frustration about the availability of replacement filters.
User Experiences
Reviewers of the Coway Airmega 300S frequently praised its effectiveness. Several noted improvements in allergy symptoms, with one reviewer describing how it significantly reduced their child’s persistent coughing. Another reviewer highlighted its durability, reporting that it performed reliably even after four years of use.
For the IQAir Atem, reviewers emphasized its convenience for personal use and travel. One reviewer described it as the “ultimate travel air purifier,” while another said it helped alleviate allergies and asthma triggers in difficult environments such as hotels and homes with pets. Some reviews, however, raised concerns about short filter life and availability, with one customer stating that the unit “did absolutely nothing” to improve air quality in their test.
Final Thoughts
The Coway Airmega 300S and the IQAir Atem are designed with different goals in mind. The product description for the Airmega 300S highlights its wide coverage, smart features, and advanced filtration system, and reviewers noted long-term effectiveness and allergy relief. The IQAir Atem product description positions it as a portable, personal purifier, with reviewers praising its travel-friendly design and clean-air zone but also pointing out filter limitations.
If you need an air purifier for a large room or home environment, the Coway Airmega 300S is better suited. If your priority is personal air purification for travel or small spaces, the IQAir Atem provides a more portable solution.
